We offer a presentation introducing the WMC for your classroom or student organization! Please submit a presentation request at least two weeks before your requested date to have one of our trained consultants visit your classroom or student organization.

Introduction to the WMC

For an in-person, or virtual, outreach presentation detailing the WMC's services, please submit a presentation request two weeks before your anticipated date. (Estimated Length: 15 minutes)

The Writing Process

Description: This workshop reviews components of the writing process and informs participants about how to use the WMC in conjunction with their own writing processes.

Description: This workshop reviews components of the creating writing process and informs participants about how to use the WMC in conjunction with their own writing processes. This workshop feature tips and tricks to energize writers in the creative writing process both for poetry and prose.

Designing Effective Visual Tools (e.g Slide Presentations, Websites, Flyers, Poster Presentations, and more)

Description: This workshop addresses the role of visual communication. In this workshop participants will learn about effective strategies such as visual rhetoric, universal design, and basic design principles.

Creating Concise and Effective Communication

Description: This interactive and engaging workshop provides an overview of using active voice, choosing strong words, and tips for effective communication. Participants have the opportunity to practice writing while considering the audience, purpose, context, and genre of communication.

Ethical Source Use (Avoiding Plagiarism)

Description: This workshop provides an opportunity to practice paraphrasing strategies, summarizing strategies, and integrating quotations. The workshop also addresses how to avoid plagiarism through the ethical use of sources.

Writing a Persuasive STEM Research Paper or Article

Description: This workshop focuses on introductions, discussion sections, and conclusions of STEM research papers and articles. We don't focus on the methods or results, which are disciplinary-specific. Rather, this workshop guides you through how to organize your introduction and discussion/conclusion, key rhetorical moves, and how to appeal to your audience.

Writing Strategies and Peer Review

Description: This workshop addresses common writing and editing strategies to aid participants in their writing process. The workshop covers global writing concerns such as organization and thesis writing as well as local writing concerns with a quick review of common grammar issues. This workshop also has a portion devoted to peer review and workshopping.
