About the Writing and Media Center

The Iowa State University Writing and Media Center helps students become stronger, more confident writers and communicators. The WMC offers tailored, one-on-one conferences for students from all disciplines who are working on any form of written, oral, visual, or electronic communication.

a consulting appointment

Trained communication consultants will assist you at any stage of your composing process, from brainstorming and organizing your ideas to polishing your final draft. We do not proofread or “fix” papers for you, nor do we create or edit media projects for you, but we will help you learn how to proofread, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of your own work, whether it is a website, oral presentation, essay, or lab report.

All forms of writing are welcome: WMC consultants are also happy to work with you on cover letters, resumes, scholarship essays, and graduate school personal statements.

Are you an instructor or program coordinator who would like to request an outreach presentation or workshop?  Please fill out our presentation request form.

Walk-in consultations are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beginning December 1, 2015, free printing will no longer be available at the WMC.
While free printing remains available now, print jobs should be limited to 10 pages.

The WMC will be closed for Fall break, November 22-29.
During Finals week, the WMC will be open for limited hours,
and will close for the semester on December 18.
